Breastfeeding

What Do You Need To Breastfeed?

There are lots of products on the market that claim to be needed if you are going to breastfeed your baby.

All you really need are:

  • some breast pads to line your bra to prevent milky leaks
  • nipple cream
  • a well fitting nursing bra.

You can use a cushion from around the house to support your baby in a higher position when you are feeding.

You do not have to cover your baby and breast when feeding outside of the home. You could use a muslin/scarf for cover if this makes you feel more comfortable.

If you plan to express milk, you will need to have sterilising equipment, bottles (or milk storage bags) and possibly a breast pump if you choose not to hand express.
