Common Breastfeeding Challenges

Breastfeeding can be challenging, especially in the early days. Remember you are not alone. The Norfolk Healthy Child Programme have a team of specialist infant feeding champions you can talk to.

Some people find breastfeeding challenging, no matter if it is their first, second or third baby. Even if they have found it easy to breastfeed one baby, remember every breastfeeding experience is different.

Breastfeeding Aversion & Dysmorphic Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER)

This is a less common breastfeeding challenge that some people may experience where negative emotions may be triggered by feeding your baby.

Infant Feeding Champions

The Healthy Child Programme have a team of Infant Feeding Champions who are able to provide you with support and advice at every step of your breastfeeding journey. They are a dedicated and passionate team who are committed to giving you and your baby the best start in life. All of the team are very experienced and trained to Unicef standards.

The team can offer advice and guidance around any area of infant feeding - breastfeeding, formula feeding, combination feeding or weaning and moving on.

To get in touch call Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 and speak to one of our skilled team about your infant feeding issue. If further support and advice is required they will make a referral to the infant feeding team who will contact you by video call or telephone at an arranged time to make an assessment.

Who can Help?

If your baby is less than 28 days old you can contact your local midwifery team or you can contact the Healthy Child Programme at any time following your baby's birth by calling Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 or texting Parentline on 07520 631590.

Our opening hours are 8am-6pm Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays) and 9am-1pm on Saturdays.

Norfolk Healthy Child Programme has a team of infant feeding champions who can contact you by video call/telephone initially to discuss your questions and refer you to further help if required. All of our staff are trained to Unicef standards to provide you with the best possible breastfeeding support and advice.

Norfolk’s Early Childhood and Family Service (ECFS) offers support for all parents and carers with children aged 0 to 5 years.
