Preparing to Feed Your Baby

Hand Expressing Breastmilk

In this video, we show you how to hand express your milk and talk about why it can be so helpful.

You can learn this skill during pregnancy. It can help get your body ready for labour and you can store small amounts of milk to give to your baby when they’re born, if you need it.

After your baby is born, hand expressing can support breastfeeding, ease breast fullness, and help maintain your milk supply, especially if your baby is in neonatal care.

If you’re unsure about anything or something doesn’t feel right, please contact your midwife or health visitor, they are here to help.
