Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a way of focusing on what is happening right now and taking a ‘break’ from stresses and worries. It is a skill that everyone can learn and benefit from. It is not hard to be ‘mindful’ but it does take a bit of practice.

Mindfulness is a good habit to have. Learning how to look after your mental health from childhood can make it easier to cope with worries and difficult times.

  • The techniques can be used at any time when you and / or your child need to calm difficult feelings.
  • If you practise using it when you feel calm, it can make it easier to use the skills when you feel anxious and upset.
  • If you have not tried mindfulness before you could give it a go with your child. It is a good family activity.

There are lots of mindfulness apps available but an adult should always check these before sharing with children. Remember to always monitor your child's use of apps.

Below there are some simple ways for you and your child to get in the mindfulness habit. You could try these any time or maybe use the 2 week mindfulness calendar below.
