Communication Quiz

This self-care resource is based on the ages and stages of children's communication development. It has been built with Norfolk and Waveney Speech and Language Therapy team, to support communication development.

For each of the 5 areas, read the statement and think about which one best describes your child.

1. Listening & Attention Required

My child is easily distracted by sounds and movement and flits from one object to another.

My child will concentrate on an object or activity they choose for short periods. If they are interrupted, they lose focus on the activity.

My child will concentrate on an object or activity they choose for short periods. They can sometimes stop the activity to listen to me talking and then carry on with the activity.

My child can move focus from the activity they are doing to listening to me talking most of the time.

My child can listen and understand me without needing to stop what they are doing to look at me. They are beginning to join in with small groups and wait their turn.

My child can show good attention to an activity. They can do the activity, listen to me and follow instructions with ease.
