Pregnancy Journey

As soon as you find out you are pregnant it is important that you book in with maternity services. During the COVID restrictions, antenatal appointments will either be face to face or digital online. Please ask your midwife for current guidelines and schedule of your appointments.

Pregnancy can be a joyful time, but we also recognise that you can experience mixed emotions. Each appointment is an opportunity for you to talk about how you are feeling and ask any questions you might have with your midwife.

You can see what appointments you need on your pregnancy journey below;

You will be offered an ultrasound scan at around 10 to 14 weeks of pregnancy. This is called the dating scan. It's used to see how far along in your pregnancy you are and check your baby's development

When you’re about 16 weeks pregnant, you’ll have a second antenatal appointment with your midwife to check baby size and fetal development. You may also get to listen to your baby’s heartbeat.

You'll have an appointment at 25 weeks if this is your first baby. Your midwife or doctor should: use a tape measure to measure the size of your uterus and measure your blood pressure and test your urine for protein.

This detailed ultrasound scan, sometimes called the mid-pregnancy or anomaly scan, is usually carried out when you're between 18 and 21 weeks pregnant.

At 28 weeks you will have some pregnancy health and wellbeing blood tests - If you have been recommended to have Anti-D this is when you would have it.

At week 31 you will have a pregnancy health and wellbeing check if this is your first baby.

By 36 weeks, you will have another pregnancy health and wellbeing check to see if everything is ok.

At 34 weeks you will have another pregnancy health and wellbeing check and a review of your blood tests.

Its the final countdown! At 38 weeks you will have another pregnancy health and wellbeing check to make everything is ok for the big day.

At Week 40 you will  have your final pregnancy health and wellbeing check if this is your first baby. At Week 41 you will be offered membrane sweep and Induction of labour if baby has not arrived.
