Welcome to the second Just One Norfolk newsletter. We will be providing you with exciting updates to the Just One Norfolk website and highlighting the information and resources available to children and families across Norfolk.

School Transitions

Starting school can be an exciting time but also challenging for some children and families. A well-planned transition can help children feel more prepared and less challenged by the changes they may face.

  • Starting School - This page includes information for families on how to prepare their child for school, including an interactive "Starting School" Quiz and animation.
  • Starting High School - Starting high school is a massive change for a child, this page includes information to help children and families cope well with starting high school, including an interactive "transition to high school" quiz.
  • Supporting transition - This page includes a video session that has been adapted from a classroom-based lesson for children to work through with adult support. It can help explore some of the potential worries children may have and think about how these could be managed.

Covid Vaccine

As the vaccine rollout continues, it's important that people in Norfolk have access to up to date information on vaccine safety. Just One Norfolk now has a page dedicated to the Covid-19 vaccine which includes guidance about having the vaccine when you are pregnant, how the vaccine was created and other common questions and concerns.

Self Weigh & Digital Drop In

Self-Weigh

Self-weigh is now available for families at several (but not yet all) local libraries. Check which libraries have the facilities by using the map on the self-weigh page.

More libraries will be adding the self-weigh station over the coming weeks and these will be updated on the map when the facilities become available. 

Digital Drop ins

Families can also attend weekly online sessions on Tuesdays 10am-11am to speak to a health professional via video call about their child aged 0-19. They can get advice about;

  • Infant feeding
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Child development
  • Emotional health
  • Behaviour and sleep
  • Toileting

Sun Safety

With summer finally upon us it's important that everyone stays safe in the sun. The Sun Safety page on Just One Norfolk gives helpful advice and guidance on how to be out in the sun safely, sun burn and sun protection.

Rail Safety

Across Norfolk, there has been an increase in dangerous behaviour around rail tracks, including walking along tracks, vandalism and playing chicken in front of trains. The 'Staying Safe on Railways' page on Just One Norfolk includes information and videos to help families talk to their children about the dangers of railways.

Vitamin D in Pregnancy

Vitamin D is essential for building and maintaining healthy bones and a lack of vitamin D can lead to problems with bones in children. The Vitamin D page on Just One Norfolk has been updated with information about Vitamin D during pregnancy.

This includes a brand-new animation which shows how important it is for pregnant women to get the right levels of Vitamin D
