Food Labels

Understanding how to read the labels on foods and drinks is helps us choose healthier food and drinks.

Why not get your children involved in checking these out too?

  • Traffic Light Labels

To help us to identify healthier choices most food and drink products have a traffic light label on them.

    They contain nutritional information on:

    • fat
    • saturated fat
    • sugar
    • salt
    • energy (calorie content)

The traffic light colours are there to help you make a healthy food choice.

    • Green is low = healthier choice
    • Amber is medium = go steady
    • Red is high = every now and again

This helps us quickly see if a food or drink is a healthy choice. It is good to choose foods and drinks that have more green and ambers and choose less that have red.
