Common Breastfeeding Challenges

Breastfeeding can be challenging, especially in the early days. But remember that you are not alone. Norfolk HCP have a team of specialist infant feeding champions you can talk to.

Some women may find breastfeeding challenging, whether its your first, second or third baby. Even if you have found it easy to breastfeed one baby, remember every breastfeeding experience is different.

Here are some common challenges that some women may experience and how to overcome them;

When To Talk To Someone

The table below shows when feeding is working well and when you may need to ask for some help. If you click on the table it will open a list of links beside the topics that will take you straight to the information you need;

Infant Feeding Champions

We have a team of Infant Feeding Champions who are here to provide you with support and advice at every step of your breastfeeding journey. They are a dedicated and passionate team who are committed to giving you and your baby the best start in life. All of the team are very experienced and trained to Unicef standards.

They can offer advice and guidance around any area of infant feeding - breastfeeding, formula feeding, combination feeding or weaning and moving on.

To contact an Infant Feeding Champion call Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 and speak to one of our skilled team members about your infant feeding issue. If further support and advice is required they will make a referral to the infant feeding team and they will contact you by video call or telephone at an arranged time to make an assessment with you and your baby.

Who Can Help?

If your baby is less than 28 days old you can contact your local midwifery team or you can contact the Healthy Child Programme at any time following your baby's birth by calling Just One Number on 0300 300 0123 or texting Parentline on 07520631590.

Our opening hours are 8am-6pm Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays) and 9am-1pm on Saturdays. Norfolk Healthy Child Programme has a team of infant feeding champions who can contact you by video call/telephone initially to discuss your questions and refer you to further help if required. All of our staff are trained to Unicef standards to provide you with the best possible breastfeeding support and advice.
