Why is Play Good?

When babies and children have plenty of warm and loving care…

(brief text of overall benefits linking to neuroscience facts from brain development Solihulll leaflet and info about Oxytocin)

There are lots of reasons why families find it difficult play. They might;

  • Feel too busy.
  • Feel silly.
  • Worry that toys are too expensive.
  • Worry that they don't know how to play.
  • Want their child to play on their own.
  • “I’m so busy; I didn’t think I’d be able to fit play in.”

    “Now I know that play can be part of everyday activities.”

  • “I feel silly playing with my child.”

  • "I don’t have money for toys.”

    "Now I realise that you don’t need to spend lots of money. Playing with things like boxes and water is great fun!"

  • “My child wanted me to join in with play but I wanted her to play on her own.”

    “Now I know that children sometimes just want you there, showing an interest.”

  • “I don’t know how or what to play.”

    “Looking at what my child was interested in led to games naturally”
