Supporting Transition

Starting high school can be an exciting time but also challenging for some children. A well planned transition can help children feel more prepared and less challenged by the changes they face.

This session has been adapted from a classroom based lesson for children to work through with adult support. It can help explore some of the potential worries children may have and think about how these could be managed. There are examples of some practical skills and activities that may help. You can try these activities together. 

During the video you can pause at any time to take part in an activity below or watch a video clip. It is helpful to remember that the activities will have more effect if they are not rushed.

This session will cover;

  • Feelings about moving to high school
  • Physical relaxation techniques
  • The importance of being able to calm and manage breathing
  • Helping you to think about resilience.
